Acceso Abierto The accessible Web portal B-Navigator: prototype evaluation(2005) Harari, Ivana; Ferreyra, José Alberto; Díaz, Francisco JavierThe accessible Web portal B-Navigator constitutes a digital medium between visually impaired and blind people, and Internet. This portal offers two basic functions: firstly, it makes accessible the Web page solicited by the user applying the accessibility norms recommended by international organizations; secondly, it integrates different adaptations like screen magnifiers, document readers, which are incorporated automatically in the Web page visited although they were not been provided in the original design. This article presents an evaluation performed to a prototype of the B-Navigator portal, where twenty users with different visual disability levels have participated. It was mounted in the Braille Library of La Plata city, where an Internet environment was simulated. The evaluation results were very useful. The users selection was adequately and lets us to test the performance, the assistance level, the efficiency of the human-computer interaction, the capacity of adaptation of the portal. In this manner, the quality of the product was analyzed. This work was a great incentive to finish the portal development and to publish it definitively in the Web in order to be used by all of us without discriminations.
Acceso Abierto Adaptive gamification in collaborative location collecting systems: a case of traveling behavior detection(2022) Dalponte Ayastuy, María; Torres, DiegoCollaborative location collecting systems (CLCS) is a particular case of collaborative systems where a community of users collaboratively collects data associated with a geo-referenced location. Gamification is a strategy to convene participants to CLCS. However, it cannot be generalized because of the different users’ profiles, and so it must be tailored to the users and playing contexts. A strategy for adapting gamification in CLCS is to build game challenges tailored to the player’s spatio-temporal behavior. This type of adaptation requires having a user traveling behavior profile. Particularly, this work is focused on the first steps to detect users’ behavioral profiles related to spatialtemporal activities in the context of CLCS. Specifically, this article introduces: (1) a strategy to detect patterns of spatial-temporal activities, (2) a model to describe the spatial-temporal behavior of users based on (1), and a strategy to detect users’ behavioral patterns based on unsupervised clustering. The approach is evaluated over a Foursquare dataset. The results showed two types of behavioral atoms and two types of users’ behavioral patterns. - Artículo
Acceso Abierto Adaptive Gamification in Collaborative systems, a Systematic Mapping Study(2021) Dalponte Ayastuy, María; Torres, Diego; Fernández, AlejandroMass collaboration mediated by technology is now commonplace (Wikipedia, Quora, TripAdvisor). Online, mass collaboration is also present in science in the form of Citizen Science. These collaboration models, which have a large community of contributors coordinated to pursue a common goal, are known as Collaborative systems. This article introduces a study of the published research on the application of adaptive gamification to collaborative systems. The study focuses on works that explicitly discuss an approach of personalization or adaptation of the gamification elements in this type of system. It employs a systematic mapping design in which a categorical structure for classifying the research results is proposed based on the topics that emerged from the papers review. The main contributions of this paper are a formalization of the adaptation strategies and the proposal of a new taxonomy for gamification elements adaptation. The results evidence the lack of research literature in the study of adapting gamification in the field of collaborative systems. Considering the underlying cultural diversity in those projects, the adaptability of gamification design and strategies is a promissory research field. - Documento de conferencia

Acceso Abierto Agro-Knowledge Integration: Developing a FAIR data science approach for adding value to the agricultural supply chain(2021) Torres, Diego; Lezoche, Mario; Collazos, César; Codocedo, Víctor; Motz, Regina; Antonelli, Leandro; Panetto, Herve; Fernández, AlejandroFarms are the engine to support rural employment making a considerable contribution to territorial development. Even though they have always been considered a cornerstone of agricultural activity in the European Union (EU) and in Latin America, this sector most often suffers from very low efficiency and effectiveness, sensitivity to weather, market disruptions and other external factors. Two different problems in knowledge sharing are present in this domain. First, the various interoperability regulations between the countries. Although some efforts are done to bypass this problem, like the EU-Mercosur signed in the summer of 2019, the different process semantics implemented in each region are a serious threat to the fulfillment of the process interoperability. Another problem is that in most of the cases, the knowledge transferred from generation to generation is paramount from a cultural point of view, but most of the time, it does not answer to the needs nor the requirements of the agri-food value chain. We aim at creating the core technology for a knowledge hub that integrates and aligns international regulations in agricultural activities, such as FAO's best practices, and possibly the last-born EU-Mercosur regulations with the local restrictions, such as national policies, allowing the small farmers to access, in an easy way, a wider market through the certification of the practices and products. In order to develop this core technology, we propose to deploy various methodologies and tools working on the domains of knowledge formalization, domain alignment and visualization. The domain of formal representation allows for the semantic alignment of rules and restrictions from different institutional regulation bodies. Simultaneously, we will propose a model for incoherence detection letting us to highlight contradictory regulations. Those knowledge atoms and constructs will be represented through some visualization information interfaces according to the users’ needs. The methods and tools that will be employed are at the same time the pillars from the multi relational data mining (MRDM), the artificial intelligence (AI), the knowledge formalization (KF) domains, but will extend the interoperability properties of those domains to become a new interesting and valuable tool for the presented problem. This abstract is issued from an accepted Stic-AmSud project that wad elaborated during the secondments of the RUC-APS project. - Contribucion a revista
Acceso Abierto AI in User Interface Design and Evaluation(IEEE Computer Society, 2023) Grigera, Julián; Pascual Espada, Jordan; Rossi, Gustavo HéctorDesigning and evaluating user interfaces is a complex task. The current focus on user experience (UX) demands user-centered processes that take considerable time and resources, and thus collide with the fast-paced agile methodologies that currently dominate the industry. In this context, academia and industry have proposed the automation of different tasks in the design and evaluation user interfaces (UIs) like prototyping and user testing. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques such as machine learning have been a considerable help to achieve this. The articles featured in this special issue describe original proposals in the use of AI for UI and user behavior evaluation.

Acceso Abierto Analyzing the design of Student Play, an educational module of Agent Socialmetric(2017) Kuz, Antonieta; Giandini, Roxana SilviaCurrently, the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into the educational process allows seeing the same from different dimensions. The educational software as an instructional support integrates the contents from a didactic and adapted to the teaching as a fundamental part in the environment of the society of the knowledge and the information. Seeking to deepen the relationship between teachers and students in the courtly context, we have developed a web tool called Agent SocialMetric based on two research areas, social networks and interface conversational agents. Integrating to Agent SocialMetric we extends the tool with a module called Student Play which is responsible for establishing interactive games for students to educate in values, through various interface conversational software agents. In the present research we present the tool and analyzing design considerations that we have taken into account. Finally, we will present the conclusions related to this compilation work. - Artículo
Acceso Abierto ANDES: an approach to embed search services on the Web browser(2022) Bosetti, Gabriela; Tacuri, Alex; Gambo, Ishaya; Firmenich, Sergio; Rossi, Gustavo Héctor; Winckler, Marco; Fernández, AlejandroThis article addresses search tasks, which are the most frequent type of tasks users do nowadays on the Web. We suggest that the customization of search services would improve the user’s searching experience, and it also might make search tasks more effective and efficient. We analyze user tasks for performing searches and types of search services. Then, we distinguish between primary search tasks (related to the initial user goal) and ancillary search tasks (those that are performed to find additional information necessary to understand how to achieve a primary search task). We also explain different types of search services, including global search services (which has an extensive search scope, possibly the whole Web) and in-site search services (which has a narrow scope of search focused on a specific Web site or data set). We also discuss features embedded into Web browsers to support search tasks and how Web browsers can support extensions allowing users to integrate customized search services. We propose an approach called ANDES that allows users to integrate into the Web browser new search services that are created by customizing search services offered by existing Web sites. By means of Web augmentation techniques, we demonstrate how users can customize the browser to trigger search services to any Web site and integrate the Web page results. We report on two evaluations showing that end-users can specify and use search services following our approach and that the proposed interaction is more convenient in contrast to traditional mechanisms. Beyond the tool used to demonstrate the feasibility of the ANDES approach, this paper aims to discuss new strategies for end-user programming that allow users to customize search services over the Web.
Acceso Abierto Applying MDA and OMG Robotic Specification for Developing Robotic Systems(2016) Pons, Claudia Fabiana; Pérez, Gabriela Alejandra; Giandini, Roxana Silvia; Baum, GabrielRobotics systems have special needs often related with their realtime nature and environmental properties. Often, control and communication paths within the system are tightly coupled to the actual physical configuration of the robot. As a consequence, these robots can only be assembled, configured, and programmed by robot experts. Traditional approaches, based on mainly writing the code without using software engineering techniques, are still used in the development process of these systems. Even when these robotic systems are successfully used, several problems can be identified and it is widely accepted that new approaches should be explored. The contribution of this research consists in delineating guidelines for the construction of robotic software systems, taking advantage of the application of the OMG standard robotic specifications which adhere to the model-driven approach MDA. Thereby the expert knowledge is captured in standard abstract models that can then be reused by other less experienced developers. In addition part of the code is automatically generated, reducing costs and improving quality. - Artículo
Acceso Abierto Applying MDE tools to defining domain specific languages for model management(2013) Pérez, Gabriela Alejandra; Irazábal, Jerónimo; Pons, Claudia Fabiana; Giandini, Roxana SilviaIn the model driven engineering (MDE), modeling languages play a central role. They range from the most generic languages such as UML, to more individual ones, called domain-specific modeling languages (DSML). These languages are used to create and manage models and must accompany them throughout their life cycle and evolution. In this paper we propose a domain-specific language for model management, to facilitate the user's task, developed with techniques and tools used in the MDE paradigm.
