Durante largo tiempo, la historia política de la provincia de Buenos Aires en el siglo XX no reflejó su importancia geopolítica en contraste con la abundante producción sobre su historia económica o la de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Aunque esta deuda académica se fue saldando paulatinamente, la historia política de las mujeres sigue siendo un terreno poco explorado. Ello sorprende porque en varias ciudades de este territorio se gestaron notables faros feministas y porque los movimientos y partidos contaron con núcleos de mujeres –feministas o no– muy activas, con una agenda para sus congéneres. En este artículo, elaboro un balance que recorre la producción sobre este período, con foco en la participación política en partidos, movimientos y el sufragismo, incluidos los debates sobre el voto y la representación. Con ello, me propongo evaluar el estado de situación del campo y avizorar futuras líneas de trabajo.

For a long time, the political history of the province of Buenos Aires during the 20th century failed to reflect its geopolitical significance, particularly when contrasted with the extensive literature on its economic history or the history of the City of Buenos Aires. Although this scholarly debt has been gradually redressed, the political history of women during the first half of the 20th century remains an underexplored field. This omission is striking, given that several cities within this territory served as prominent feminist beacons and that both traditional movements and political parties contained highly active clusters of women—whether feminist or not—who advanced agendas tailored to their peers. In this article, I provide a comprehensive review of the scholarship concerning this period, focusing on political participation within parties and movements, as well as suffragism, including debates surrounding the vote and representation. In doing so, I aim to evaluate the current state of the field and identify prospective lines for future research.
