Dilemas de la modernización: dos cuentos de Rubén Darío en el diario Tribuna de Buenos Aires

Resumen

El artículo examina dos cuentos que Rubén Darío publicó en el diario Tribuna de Buenos Aires durante sus primeros años en la ciudad. Se analiza cómo estas narraciones –“El nacimiento de la col” y “En la batalla de las flores”– muestran una relación conflictiva con la modernidad y el proceso de modernización que tiene lugar entre los siglos XIX y XX. Tras contextualizar la presencia del escritor en el diario y el conjunto de textos que publica allí (particularmente los cuentos), el estudio analiza de qué modo ambos relatos abordan tensiones como la oposición entre belleza y utilidad, la creciente presión del mercado y la redefinición del rol del creador en una sociedad atravesada por valores materialistas y prácticos.

This article examines two short stories published by Rubén Darío in the Buenos Aires newspaper Tribuna when he first arrived in the city. It explores how "El nacimiento de la col” and "En la batalla de las flores” reveal the conflicted relationship between artists and the modernization process taking place between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. After contextualizing the writer’s presence in the newspaper and the texts he published there –especially his short stories– the study focuses on how this tales address tensions such as the opposition between beauty and utility, the increasing pressure of the market and the redefinition of the artist’s role y society.
