El presente trabajo explora, a partir de los aportes generados por la historia social y cultural de los deportes en articulación con los estudios de género, la trayectoria deportiva de Olga Tassi, una de las atletas argentinas más importantes en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Se focaliza el análisis en los modos discursivos utilizados por la prensa general (periódicos y revistas) y especializada (deportiva), a la hora de describir, caracterizar y, al mismo tiempo, fabricar e interpretar su trayectoria deportiva, identificando los guiones de género dominantes, así como las resistencias e interpelaciones de sentidos que se construyeron sobre su cuerpo, su feminidad, su moralidad sexual y su identidad, entre los años 20 y 40 del siglo XX. Conceptualizamos la performance deportiva de Olga Tassi como un “descriptor denso”, una ventana analítica para registrar lógicas, dinámicas, conflictos y disputas sexuales, identitarias y generizadas producidas en el entramado deportivo y en el contexto social más amplio. Entre las conclusiones identificamos la emergencia de un tipo de modelo moderno de mujer deportista argentina en el que conviven imposiciones y mandatos sociales, estéticos y morales con interpelaciones y desobediencias sexo-genéricas.

This paper explores, based on contributions from the social and cultural history of sports in relation to gender studies, the sporting career of Olga Tassi, one of the most important Argentinian athletes of the first half of the twentieth century. The analysis is focused on the discursive modes used by the general press (newspapers and magazines) and the specialized press (sports media) when describing, characterizing, and at the same time, constructing and interpreting her athletic career. It identifies the dominant gender scripts as well as the resistances and challenges to meaning that were built around her body, her femininity, her sexual morality, and her identity between the 1920s and 1940s. We conceptualize Olga Tassi’s athletic performance as a ‘dense descriptor,’ an analytical window that allows us to record the logics, dynamics, conflicts, and sexual, identity-related, and gendered disputes produced within the sporting framework and the broader social context. Among our conclusions, we identify the emergence of a modern model of the Argentinian female athlete in which social, aesthetic, and moral impositions and mandates coexist with gender-related challenges and acts of disobedience.
