Os objetivos do artigo limitam-se à apresentação de alguns aspectos do respectivo trajeto de professor e pesquisador em ciências sociais. São destacados alguns dos condicionantes tidos como mais relevantes para a apreensão da orientação, impasses e alternativas postas em prática no trajeto. Dentre esses condicionantes se destacam, em primeiro lugar, as origens sociais relativamente baixas e periféricas relativamente à categoria social de destino, as predisposições e limites no ingresso no mercado e seus efeitos no respectivo trajeto escolar. Em segundo lugar são destacadas as relações desse trajeto escolar com o trajeto profissional e com os princípios e a estrutura de hierarquização das ciências sociais no Brasil no período recente. Por fim, em terceiro lugar, são destacados os limites e contradições da profissionalização e da carreira, particularmente no que tange à inexistência de qualquer autonomia escolar e profissional frente ao que no Brasil, em geral, é designado como a “política”.

This article aims at presenting some aspects of the path taken as a professor and researcher in Social Sciences. Some of the conditioning topics considered as the most relevant to the orientation’s choice are highlighted here, besides deadlocks and alternatives practiced along the path. Among such conditioning aspects some should be highlighted. First of all, relatively low and peripheral social background regarding the social category of the destination, besides predispositions and limits when entering the marketplace and their effects in the schooling path. Secondly, the relations of such schooling path with the professional path as well as the principles and hierarchical structure of Social Sciences in Brazil in recent years. Finally, the limits and contradictions of professionalization and career, particularly referring to the nonexistence of any educational and professional autonomy regarding what is usually called “politics” in Brazil.
